I’ve loved reading from a young age, and not because Pizza Hut tried to bribe me with BOOK IT! Remember that? The program that promotes reading with free personal pan pizzas. Believe it or not, it still exists!
Here are some of our favorite books to get you through the summer!
An Elephant & Piggie Biggie! by Mo Willems
Look out, laughter ahead. This book includes five stories from Willems’ popular book series including “Can I Play Too?” which is my son’s favorite. The main characters, Elephant & Piggie, are best friends who share silly adventures. Ages 4-8
David Goes to School by David Shannon
“David, YOU’RE TARDY!,” the teacher scolds. I promise that your preschooler will love the trouble-making main character, David, whose got a shiny, white set of jagged teeth. Come along on his misadventures – and check out the entire series. Ages 3-6
Grow Up! by Nina Laden
This board book is one of the first that I read to my son. At five-years old, he still grabs it from the bookshelf! Beauty transforms from page to page – while learning what each baby animal grows up to be. We love the ending (no spoilers here!) Ages 2-5
Look, Look! by Peter Linenthal
Perfect gift for baby’s first book. This black-and-white story is sturdy and appealing to a young child’s eyes. It’s very sweet and soothing, for both kids and parents. Simple words with a simple message. Other titles include, Look at the Animals! Ages 0-3
Moonlight Ocean by Elizabeth Golding
My cousin found this book in a restaurant gift shop. Thank you, cousin! This underwater adventure features a really cool magic light beam to illuminate the pages. No batteries required! Kids can dive into this book and learn about everything under the sea. Ages 4-8
One of the best gifts I ever gave my son was registering him for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. He received one book each month, from birth to age five. What a blessing it was to build such an extensive library for free!
It’s so important to take the time to read with your child. What are your child’s favorite books? Please share so that we can check out what else is out there!
