We Should Hang Out!

Let me guess the last thing you are possibly thinking about right now.

No, really. Let me guess.

Remember those things you make in January that you’re totally 100% committing to this time!

Well hey, just me here, bragging that I am actually keeping my New Year’s Resolution this year.

Keep reading to find out more!

On a serious note, my New Year’s Resolution this year was to invest in relationships. That was all. It was one that was somewhat easy to decide on because I knew I needed to make that change and saw myself getting mad about relationships that were dissolving, but yet not doing anything to resolve them.

I travel a lot, and I have several different “pockets” of friends. This allows me to see a lot of different people. I was the queen of  “Omg yes let’s hang out when I’m in town!” or “We need to get together!” and doing absolutely nothing to follow through on it.

As an introvert, sometimes it’s so easy for me to hide out from everything. I am perfectly content with my dogs and horses. I value my alone time. I am always the one at family functions and parties that has to take time away from the crowd to be alone in a quiet room. And that is perfectly fine. If you are like me, believe me I get it.

At the same time, we ALL need human relationship at some level. We were designed for it.  And I have been blessed with some amazing, God ordained relationships in my life that I am truly thankful for.

So this year, when I said “Yeah we need to hang out!” I tried to act on it and mean it instead of letting it slip by. I have made time for the people I care about and watched God strengthen present relationships and bring new ones as well. And for that I am grateful.

It’s all about a balance. If you are an introvert, balance your alone time with your people time. If you are an extrovert, balance your alone time with your people time. Everyone’s balance may look slightly different.

I think this applies to friendships as well as romantic relationships. Those relationships need to be watered and fed everyday as well.

So make time for those you love and care about. Grab the coffee. Get dinner. And be wise to discern what relationships you should invest in. I promise you will not regret it.
